Core Robotics Summer Camp

Hosted by the Coordination of Robotics Education (CORE) program with the College of Technology, the summer camps for both students and adults are broken into beginner and advanced sessions. "Kids have so much fun with robotics because they don’t realize that they are learning," said Karen Cohen, CORE program manager. "The CORE staff are leaders in robotics training and events, so our development of summer camps is the next step in our mission to serve the students and educators in our community." Students 7 to 11 years old have the opportunity to use LEGO® Simple Machine kits to build robots and realistic motorized machines during the Engineering and Robotics Learned Young (EARLY) sessions. The two EARLY sessions will be held Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 9-12 and June 16-19. The LEGO® NXT Robotics classes will teach students 10 to 14 years old about alternative energy and renewable energy as campers create and program robots that help a community rethink its energy consumption. The two sessions for NXT Robotics will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 9-13 and June 16-20. The Robot Discovery Institute will help educators, mentors, parents and coaches keep up with younger generations while offering beginner and advanced training sessions of their own. The Elementary Age Robotics session will teach adults the basics of robot design by using LEGO® robotics kits to build wire-controlled robots that move, lift, grab and push. The three-day session will be held July 29-31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The LEGO® NXT Robotics and Programming session raises the bar by concentrating on the core components of LEGO® robotics that will leave educators equipped to develop a robotics program at the classroom, campus or district level.
