New on the Go

Dr. Farrokh Attarzadeh has been appointed chair of conference affairs for the International Association of Journals and Conferences, in recognition of his contributions to the International Journal of Modern Engineering and its parent organization, IAJC.

Dr. Jerry Waite won the Hartman Award from the International Graphic Arts Education Association and was recently elected president of the Print-Ed Accreditation Advisory Board.

Dr. Holly Hutchins presented a paper entitled "Exploring the Strategic Role of HRD in Organizational Crisis Management" at the International Human Resource Development Conference in Lille, France.

The UH College of Technology showed the world what it truly means to be a leaders in innovation when its student team was selected as one of five university level finalists in the annual worldwide Parametric Technology Corporation Education Design Challenge. Selected from over 70 entries from around the globe, the University of Houston team was the only group from a United States institution selected for the final round of the competition. Teams from the United Kingdom, Ireland and Kuala Lumpur were also among the finalists.

Whether it's planning for the construction of a new shopping mall or evaluating the terrain of the next major highway, there remains a need for professional surveyors. A $225,000 grant from the Professional Surveyors Education Foundation has been awarded to the University of Houston College of Technology to help ensure that demand can continue to be met.

Project management graduate student, Lee James, was awarded first prize in the 5th Annual Student Technical Paper Competition held during the American Society for Quality World Conference on Quality and Improvement. James' paper entitled "Using Six Sigma and FMEA in Home Healthcare to Improve the Medicaid Billing Process" was one of nine papers selected and scored by the Student Branch Organization Committee of the ASQ Section Affairs Council.

Thanks in part to funding received from the University of Houston Faculty Development Initiative Program, faculty in the Department of Information and Logistics Technology have initiated an innovative cross-course collaboration that has expanded the scope of the traditional class project through the exploration of podcasting.
