Guest Services Volunteer

Assignment Summary
The Guest Services Volunteer serves as a representative of the Guest Services program of Texas Children's Hostpital to patients and families. The Guest Services volunteer provides information and orients families to the services provided by the Guest Services program.

Hours
Flexible

Qualifications

  • Enjoy dealing with people of all ages and have a friendly, out-going manner.
  • Ability to walk distances.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledgeable about Hospital layout and location of basic services.
  • Commitment to weekly attendence
  • Spanish or other language helpful.


Data Input Operator

Assignment Summary
Input immunization records into Harris County Registry. Hours are felxible. Can work either at Meyer Building or in Volunteer Services Office.

Qualifications

  • Data entry work.
  • Ability to work on a consistent basis due to the amount of training involved.


Waiting Room Volunteer

Assignment Summary
Interact with patients and families in the waiting room.

Hours
Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Ability to deal with patients, parents and staff in a professional manner.
  • Able to work with children of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient and work alone with patients and families.


Bingo Volunteer

Assignment Summary
Prepare for and call bingo for patients and families in the west room of the Schoolhouse on the 16th floor of the West Tower.

Hours
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Sunday 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Must like dealing with people of all ages and have a sympathetic manner.
  • Understandable and well-modulated voice.


Arts in Medicine Program

Assignment Summary
Provide arts instruction.

Hours
Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Training required in one or more of the following arts: drawing, painting, photography, weaving, music, theater, storytelling, creating writing, or dance.
  • Ability to relate to children of various ages and cultural backgrounds.
  • Enthusiasm and enjoyment of children, plus sensitivity and compassion for their special needs.


Preteen Room Volunteer

Assignment Summary
Provide an environment where patients can relax, do crafts and participate in normalizing play.

Hours
The Preteen Room is open daily.

Qualifications

  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of a group and as a leader.
  • Enthusiasm and enjoyment of children, plus sensitivity and compassion for their special needs, especially with regard to age and development.
  • Ability to relate to chilren of this age group (8-12 years) and various cultural backgrounds.
  • Junior Volunteers must be paired with an Adult Volunteer.
  • Ability to comply with Hospital and Child Life policies.


Radio Lollipop Volunteer

Assignment Summary
Volunteer as part of the Radio Lollipop Team.

Hours
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm.
  • Interest in doing crafts.
  • Ability to encourage children to participate in radio program.
  • Dependable and punctual.


Emergency Center Family Volunteer

Assignment Summary
Provide individualized customer services and personal touch for patients and families during potentially difficult or high-stress situations in the Emergency Center.

Hours
Monday through Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 a.m.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to a broad range of personalities and to communicate effectively.
  • Relate to a diversified patient population without bias or race, color, religious preference, or social status.
  • Good listener.
  • Provide support and emotional comfort to patients and families experiencing crisi.
  • Motivated, empathetic, and interested in helping patients and families in the emergency care environment.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Comfortable during interactions with others during tomes if highly emotional situations.
  • Able to prioritize effectively.
  • Able to withstand long periods of walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, bending or stopping.
