and remind us of feats first seen in the 1960's sci-fi movies. The knowledge explosion in science, technology,
engineering & mathematics (STEM) over the past decades is unquestionably overwhelming. STEM-inclined people need to quickly adapt.

The engineering profession covers a wide range of activities that are further depicted in the following Conceive, Design, Implement and
Operate (CDIO ™) figure.
Engineering Technology (ET) is the profession in which knowledge of the applied mathematical and natural
sciences gained by higher education, experience, and practice is devoted to the application of engineering
principles and the implementation of technological advances for the benefit of humanity. Engineering Technology
education for the professional focuses primarily on analyzing, applying, implementing and improving existing
and emerging technologies and is aimed at preparing graduates for the practice of engineering that is close to
the product improvement, manufacturing, and engineering operational functions.
By definition then, ET degree plans are designed to have experiential learning as the educational backbone.
The reduction in mathematical and scientific requirements is compensated by a richness of laboratory courses
that are almost in one-to-one proportion to lecture courses. Moreover, lecture courses emphasize the
application of mathematics, science, and engineering and we strive to prepare labs that are modern,
project-based, inquisitive, and synchronized with the lectures.
The department offers six Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees, a Master of Technology (M.T.) degree, and
several minors associated with fields of study within the department. Three Bachelor of Science degrees
have majors in
Computer Engineering Technology,
Electrical Power Engineering Technology,
and Mechanical Engineering Technology.
These degrees are accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission (TAC)
of the
Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
The Bachelor of Science degree in
Construction Management Technology
is currently in Candidacy Status and seeking full accreditation by
the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The newly
revamped B.S. in
Surveying Engineering Technology
(pending approval by the Coordinating Board) is preparing
to seek TAC/ABET accreditation. The department launched a new B.S. in
Biotechnology in
fall 2007 that combines biological disciplines with engineering, information technology, and other
technical disciplines. The Master of Technology degree has concentrations in
Network Communications
and in
Construction Management.
The curricula of these majors are designed to give students a
strong understanding of the principles of the fields of study and a one-of-a-kind experiential
learning opportunity in modern laboratory facilities.
