Biography


Dr. Iyer is the founding director of Biotechnology Programs in the College of Technology at UH. In this capacity, she was responsible for the designing, development and implementation of the new interdisciplinary research-based biotechnology degree program. As the Director of the Center for Life Sciences Technology she is responsible for developing the core initiatives of the center including collaboration with the local biotechnology industry, development of workforce, training and outreach programs and development of a core facility to support the Life Sciences and biotech cluster for the state of Texas. Dr. Iyer received her Ph.D. in microbial genetics from Michigan State University and conducted her postdoctoral studies at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston. Her research interests are in microbial and environmental biotechnology.
