Where to Give

Giving to the College of Technology

Student Support

Scholarship support is critical in attracting the best and brightest students to the College of Technology and its programs. A particular area of need is for transfer scholarships, which assist in leveling the cost for students transferring from community and junior colleges. Often, the opportunity to receive a scholarship is the deciding factor for an incoming freshman or transfer student in selecting the University of Houston over another institution. Opportunities exist to gift general COT scholarships, scholarships within a particular program, or establish a named scholarship though an endowment. Faculty Support

Academic quality is a key metric in ensuring the College of Technology is competitive with similar programs at other universities across the nation. In addition to funding current programs and courses in areas such as Construction Management, Biotechnology or Logistics and Supply Chain, faculty support is also needed in emerging areas, such as courses in Petroleum Technology. Contributions ensure recruitment and retention of top-notch faculty to offer the latest education and skills to students.

Laboratory Support

Both financial and in-kind contributions of equipment assist students throughout the College of Technology and ensure they are trained on the tools of the trade in their respective programs. Additional support is needed in the area of renovations to enhance facilities provided in the college’s buildings, one of which was the third building constructed on campus.

Additional Interest Areas

Additional areas of support include:

  • Dean’s Excellence Fund: an unrestricted fund which allows the college’s administration to be proactive and respond to emerging opportunities as they occur, ensuring the COT remains on the cutting edge of industry.
  • Cougars for Kids: begun in 2007, this program matches up UH students, faculty, staff and supporters with volunteer opportunities in the Greater Houston community. Currently, patient visitation in children’s hospitals is the main focus of outreach, with tutoring programs in area schools to be added in the 2008-2009 year.
  • Research: research occurs in all areas of the college, and its centers. For example, through The Abramson Center, research is conducted to provide healthcare access throughout the community through the use of technology. Research-designated gifts provide needed support and infrastructure for the latest technical developments.
  • Merchandising Star Awards: This bi-annual event (scheduled for February 5, 2009) highlights leading members of the retail merchandising community for outstanding contributions to the profession. Proceeds benefit the Consumer Sciences & Merchandising program, which prepares students for retail and human resources careers. The 2009 event will be chaired by community philanthropist Philamena Baird and co-chaired by Lou Delone of Icon Magazine.
