Computer Information Systems

Expanding the Information Society

Overview

The Computer Information Systems (CIS) program, formerly the Information Systems Technology program, provides for the needs of a dynamic and integral part of business and industry - the information systems environment, also known as information technology or IT. To meet the demands of the current technological era, students gain skills in both technical and business applications, including computer concepts and applications, problem solving, decision making, human relations, ethics, evaluation, analysis and communications.

The Information and Logistics Department offers bachelor's and master's levels degree programs, an undergraduate minor, and a certificate program in information security.

Accreditation

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems is  accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of  ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, telephone: (410) 347-7700.

The University of Houston has been recognized as an NSA  National Center of Academic Excellence in IA Education. The courses in the master's program and the certificate program in information assurance satisfy the NSA national training and education standards for Information Systems Security Professionals (NSTISSI 4011), Information Systems Security Officers (CNSSI 4014e), and Information Assurance Risk Analysis (CNSSI 4016e).

Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems program blends theory and practice to prepare its graduates for careers in fields such as software systems development, e-commerce, and network administration.

Master of Science in Technology Project Management - Information Systems Security

The Information Systems Security specialization equips technology professionals to assess the security needs of information and network systems and then to manage the implementation and maintenance of the recommended security solutions.

Information Assurance Certificate Program

Advance your career with a Certificate in Information Assurance (IA) from the University of Houston in an IA Education Program that is 4011/4014e/4016e certified by the  National Security Agency (NSA).

Computer Applications Technology Minor

The minor in Computer Applications Technology is designed for all non-computing majors. The minor emphasizes computing in the work environment including experience with personal and client-server computing.
