Overview

Are you seeking to enhance your skills, extend your current capabilities, or prepare for a job promotion? The Certificate in Consumer Science and Merchandising may be just what you are looking for. The certificate is awarded upon completed of 12- three credit Consumer Science and Merchandising courses. These include the following:

HDCS 3300   Organizational Decisions In Technology

HDCS 3301   Consumer Science

HDCS 3303   Merchandising and Consumer Science

HDCS 3304   Visual Merchandising

HDCS 4300   Research Concepts in Consumer Science and Merchandising

HDCS 4302   Apparel Analysis

HDCS 4303   Merchandising Systems

HDCS 4369   Entrepreneurship

HDCS 4380   Merchandising

HDCS 4386   Communication Strategies

Those who will benefit from the Consumer Science Certificate program include individuals who desire to:

  • Enter the fields of retailing, consumer science, and merchandising
  • Extend a previously earned bachelors’ degree by learning consumer science and merchandising knowledge and skills
  • Provide solid evidence of enhanced capability for job promotion and development

Steps to begin your CSM Certificate program:

1. Apply and be admitted to the University of Houston. Admission information is available at

http://www.uh.edu/enroll/admis/undergraduate/Ugrad_Applications.htm

List your major as Consumer Science and Merchandising.

2. Contact the Academic Services Center at  713-743-4100 or asc@uh.edu .  Tell them you are seeking the Certificate in Consumer Science and Merchandising.

3. Check the course offerings for the term you intend to start and select the course or courses you want to complete.  Courses are offered online and face-to-face on a rotational basis.

4. Enjoy and complete your course(s).

5. Contact both the Academic Service Center and Dr. Barbara L. Stewart (bstewart@uh.edu) when you have completed the 12 courses.
