The College of Technology is uniquely located in a major research university in the 4th largest city in the nation. The Houston medical center, petrochemical industry, aerospace industry, the Port of Houston, retail businesses, the computer industry, and NASA are among many areas that provide unique opportunities for faculty for partnership and applied research. Furthermore, there are many interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary opportunities within the College of Technology and other colleges and centers on campus.

One of the main objectives of the office of the Associate Dean for Research is to assist the faculty in pursing scholarly activities, applied research, writing grants, and innovative educational initiatives.
